Which walks start from the bridge?

Two waymarked circular walks start from the car park on Route d’Herbeumont: a 6 km loop (green rectangle) and a 9 km loop (yellow rectangle). The bridge also links the GR 16 long-distance trail on the Sainte-Cécile side with the GR 129 on the Épioux side.

On the bridge

How long and how high is the bridge?

The bridge is 185 metres long and spans the Semois at a height of nearly 30 metres.

Verified· S1 S2 S4

Which way should I cross the bridge?

The bridge is higher on the Sainte-Cécile side than on the Épioux side. The first time, cross going downhill, from Sainte-Cécile towards Les Épioux: it is high and it moves a little, and going down feels more reassuring.

Checked on site· 11.10.2026

Do I have to cross the bridge again to get back to the car park?

Usually, yes: other ways across the Semois are far away, so you go there and back over the bridge. If you have doubts or feel dizzy on the way out, turn back straight away. Another way back exists, but it is a very long detour.

Checked on site· 11.10.2026

Does the bridge move?

A little, yes: that is how a Himalayan suspension bridge works, hanging from its cables. If you are afraid of heights, make your first crossing going downhill, from Sainte-Cécile towards Les Épioux.

Checked on site· 11.10.2026

Is it scary if I am afraid of heights?

A little, yes: the bridge sways under your steps and you can see the Semois through the grating. A sign warns that the crossing is dizzying and asks you not to make the bridge sway. The first time, cross going downhill, from Sainte-Cécile towards Les Épioux.

Yes. Children must hold an adult’s hand while crossing.

Verified· S4 S7

Can I bring my dog across the bridge?

Yes, dogs are allowed on a lead. Be aware that the metal grating deck can unsettle some dogs and isn’t ideal for their paws. Not every dog will cross the bridge: be ready to turn back if yours refuses.

Verified· S4 S7 S1Checked on site· 11.10.2026

Can I cycle across the bridge?

Cyclists must get off and push their bike for the whole crossing.

Verified· S4 S7 S1

Is the bridge accessible with a pushchair or wheelchair?
